叶近卵圆形，不分裂，盾状或非盾状着生，掌状叶脉；托叶长1-3厘米，凋落；苞片具齿或近全缘，无盘状腺体。雄蕊2-12枚，花药4室；子房2-5室，具软刺。蒴果具软刺。
模式种：血桐Macaranga tanarius (L.) Muell. Arg
